About the Event

Dear Anglo-Albanian Association member, friends,

It is a pleasure to introduce you to our author and Board member, John Watkins.  His name will be familiar to most if not all of you, as he is the Editor of our very successful online "Gazette" newsletter.

John has completed his book entitled "Enver Hoxha's Long Shadow - Travels in Albania" and the Anglo-Albanian Association is pleased to host its launch at 6.30pm on Thursday 23 November at the Embassy of Albania, 33, St George's Drive, London SW1V 4DG.

Those wishing to attend either in person or via Zoom should RSVP to angloalbanian@gmail.com, following which they will be sent confirmation of attendance or the Zoom link, as appropriate. Space at the Embassy is limited so tickets for those wishing to attend in person will be allotted on a first come first served basis.

I look forward to reading John's book, a copy of which has just reached me. As the author makes clear, understanding Hoxha helps one understand Albania. Hoxha kept Albania in extreme isolation, and his rule involved notorious cruelty towards his own people.  In her Foreword, Miranda Vickers echoes John Watkins' belief that the shadow cast by Hoxha remains today.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase at a discount price of £10.00. James Ferguson, Editorial Director of Signal Books will be present at the launch.

There will be refreshments to celebrate the book launch as well as Albania's Flag Day which falls on 28 November. Our thanks to Charge d'Affaires Mamica Toska for the Embassy's hospitality.

Best wishes,

Stephen
