About the Event
Dear AAA members, friends
We are fortunate that the political economist Dr Luca Uberti will be giving us a lecture via Zoom on Wednesday 9 June at 17.30 London time. Â The full title of his talk is "The Albanian Economy 30 Years after Transition: Achievements, Challenges and Ways Forward".
Dr Uberti explains:Â
"This talk will chart the state of the Albanian economy thirty years after the transition from Communism. Focusing specifically on the last 10 years, it will review recent developments in macro-economic performance, assessing their broader significance. No other transition economy has experienced such a dramatic socio-economic transformation as Albania. Now the country faces a number of ongoing challenges, and will have to upgrade its productive capabilities if it is to stave off the middle-income trap and move closer to EU accession".
Dr. Uberti is a post-doctoral researcher at the Department of Economics in the University of Luxembourg. During 2018-2020, he was Alexander Nash Fellow in Albanian Studies at SSEES (School of Slavonic and East European Studies), University College London.Â
He has a particular interest in  growth and development, and the economics of post-communist transition. His work has appeared in a number of academic journals and most recently in the Palgrave Handbook of Comparative Economics.Â
Luca has also spent five years between Tirana and Prishtina, providing policy advice to donor agencies, national governments and international NGOs.
Please RSVP if you would like to join us. The event will be held through Zoom, the details of which (including the Zoom link) will be sent to you after you RSPV and register for the event.
