About the Event
Dear AAA Member and friends,
We have pleasure in inviting you to the AAA's first event of the New Year: Â an illustrated Zoom talk on "The Bird Population of Albania" to be given on 18 January 2024, starting at 6pm London time/7pm Tirana time. Â This will be given by Zydjon Vorpsi, a senior member of the PPNEA (Protection and Preservation of the Natural Environment in Albania). Â This talk follows his previous one on the protection and preservation of the bird population.
Joni has sent us this introduction to his 18 January talk:
A century ago, the British naturalist, Richard Lodge would publish the first pictures of his discovery in Albania; the Dalmatian pelican colony in Divjaka-Karavasta. 100 years later, the colony is still nesting there, surviving throughout continuous threats and rapid development. But the land of eagles, Albania, has had more bird species and populations to discover throughout the years.Located in the Adriatic flyway for migrating birds and having a rich habitat diversity consisting of alpine pastures, which are connected to the sea through long rivers, creating crucial wildlife habitats in between, this country provides shelter for birds of prey, waterbirds, passerines and vultures which in total provide a list of 360 species registered in its territory.   There is yet much more to discover about the birds of Albania…...."
This introduction indicates how lucky we are to be hosting such a well informed and dedicated speaker.
Our speaker will be addressing us from Tirana. Â We are looking into the possibility of a screening of the Zoom talk in the Embassy of Albania (33, St.George's Drive, London SW1V 4DG), and we will inform you if this can be arranged.
Please RSVP below or to angloalbanian@gmail.com and we will send you the Zoom link.Â
Every good wish for 2024,
Stephen
