About the Event
Dear Anglo-Albanian Association Member, friends
Appropriately for this time of Easter we have scheduled a Zoom talk by Altin Hysi, entitled "Translating the Bible into Albanian".
It will be held on Tuesday 13 April, starting at 6pm UK time. Altin Hysi has been General Secretary of the Inter-confessional Bible Society of Albania (IBSA) for the last 24 years. The IBSA is a foundation based in Tirana with its board of directors respectively representing the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania, as well as the Catholic and Protestant Churches.
In his talk, Altin Hysi will touch on the history of Bible translation in Albania and why the new translation was needed; he sees it as a real milestone. He will also describe the ways in which the main branches of Christianity in Albania have buried their differences so as to allow co-operation. And, not least, he will talk about the features of the Albanian language (eg the division between Ghegs in the North and Tosks in the South) which have made this translation exercise challenging.
Zoom details are available to those that have registered for the event.
Neil Rees, who is familiar to AAA members as a lecturer and author of books such as "A Royal Exile: King Zog and Queen Geraldine of Albania", has kindly agreed to introduce Altin Hysi.
Best wishes,
Stephen Nash CMG
