“Celebrating Scanderbeg” - the AAA’s official report on its Scanderbeg celebrations.

 

Butrint in the Age of Scanderbeg - Richard Hodges, Paul Gwynne and Joanita Vroom outline Butrint’s history, from its founding in the first century BCE to its excavation in the twentieth century. (This is an edited version of an article first published in 2014 in Papers of the British School at Rome, Vol 82).

 

Scanderbeg and European Civilisation - the text of the paper given by Professor Pascal Milo at the AAA’s “Celebrating Scanderbeg” event, detailing the European dimension of Albanian resistance to the Ottoman Turks.


The Circulation of Printed Books about Scanderbeg in the Sixteenth Century - the text of a paper given by Paul Quarrie, an antiquarian book expert from Maggs Bros. Ltd, at the AAA’s “Celebrating Scanderbeg”. Paul explains why so many books about Scanderbeg were published in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.


Western Balkans Extremism Research Forum - John Watkins reports on a half-day conference about radicalisation among Balkan nations, including Albania and Kosovo. The conference was held at the National Liberal Club in London and hosted by the Global Strategy Forum.


Scanderbeg's Coat of Arms - Michael Gunn traces the roots of Scanderbeg’s coat of arms back through the Byzantine Emperors to the ancient Hittite Empire in Anatolia.

Film review - John Watkins reviews Ballë për Ballë (Face to Face) (1979), directed by Kujtim Çashku and Piro Milkani. Set in 1961 in the naval base at Vlorë, the film dramatizes the military tensions between Albania and the Soviet Union triggered by Albania’s withdrawal from the Warsaw Pact.


Some Ideas about Albania in China - Adam Yamey meets some retired diplomats who give him an insight into how Albania was regarded in China during the 1960s and ‘70s.
